Handwoven Rattan Vertical Pendant
A vertical shade rather than a wide one: the weave runs tall and narrow, so the fixture reads as a column of light rather than a canopy over it. That is the right proportion in a room with height, or above a narrow surface such as an island bench, where a wide shade would overhang the edges and a tall one keeps the line clean.
The workmanship is where the price sits. A tall woven shade has to hold its shape over a longer span than a dome does, with nothing but the tension of the reeds to stop it bowing, and the weave here is worked closely enough to manage that without a visible frame. Designer pieces like this one add the touch that gives a room its personality rather than just its lighting.
It is at its best over a dining table, an island bench or in a cabana, where the relaxed, holiday quality of natural fibre is doing real work. Bulb not included; a warm white LED brings out the honey in the rattan. Indoor use, or a properly covered outdoor space, since rattan absorbs moisture. Dust the length of it with a dry soft brush.
