Handcrafted Wood Globe Pendant Shade

Natural wood worked by hand into a round globe shade, with the timber slats curving to form a full sphere rather than a dome or a drum. A globe is the hardest shape to make in wood and the most rewarding, because it reads the same from every angle and there is no back to hide.

Three sizes are offered, at 43, 50 and 60 cm. The 43 cm suits a bedside, a nursery, an entry hall or a smaller dining table; 50 cm works over a kitchen island or a dining table in a normal room; 60 cm has the scale to be the focal point of a living room or a large dining space. Its versatility is the point: the same shade sits comfortably in a coastal scheme, a boho one and a rustic one, and in a plain modern room it works as the single warm natural element. Light escapes between the slats in bands, so the globe glows along its lines and throws a striped pattern outwards rather than dropping a flat pool.

Wood is a natural material, so grain and tone vary between slats and between pieces. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool and keep it clear of the timber, and do not fit a high-wattage bulb. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight of the fitting.
