Natural Rattan Woven Pendant Light

Woven by hand from selected natural rattan and left in its original colour, with no stain, dye or lacquer applied. That decision is the whole character of the piece: what you get is the actual tone of the cane, which varies subtly across the shade and warms slightly with age rather than staying fixed.

Because nothing has been added, the material is doing all the work, and it does it well. The weave lets light through the sides as well as the bottom, so the fitting glows and casts a soft irregular shadow pattern across the ceiling instead of dropping a hard pool below it. It suits a dining table, a kitchen island, a living room or a bedroom, and it is one of the easiest ways to bring a natural atmosphere into a room that is otherwise painted, plastered and hard-surfaced. Rattan is also a fast-growing, renewable material, which is a genuine advantage over a moulded or plated shade.

Rattan is natural, so colour, grain and weave vary between pieces and no two shades are the same. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool, keep it clear of the weave, and do not fit a high-wattage bulb in a natural-fibre shade. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight of the fitting.
