A rope cord continues the natural fibre of the shade all the way to the ceiling, so the fixture reads as a single material from top to bottom. A casual cord is thinner and more discreet, letting the shade float with almost nothing visible above it.
Which you want depends on the ceiling. In a room with height, a rope cord gives the drop something to look at and stops the shade from appearing to hang in a void. Under a standard ceiling, where the drop is short, a casual cord keeps things clean and puts all the attention on the weave. Both are offered on both sizes.
