Ripple glass has a wavy, uneven surface pressed into it during forming, so the wall thickness varies across the shade. That variation is what makes it interesting under a bulb: thicker sections refract more and thinner ones less, so the light leaving the shade is broken into soft bands rather than passing straight through as it would with flat glass.
Two finishes are offered. Green tints everything the fixture emits and turns it into a clear colour statement, particularly against white walls, where the cast light picks up the tint as well. Clear keeps the ripple as a purely textural effect, so you get the refraction without any colour at all, which is the more flexible choice in a room you may well redecorate.
At 16 x 19 cm it is a small fixture, slightly taller than it is wide, which suits a bedside, a hallway or a group of three over an island rather than a solo installation over a table. It fits a Nordic or modern scheme. Bulbs are not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Indoor use. Wipe with a soft dry cloth.
