Fabric Umbrella Pendant Shade, 60cm

A wide fabric shade, 60 cm across and only 22 cm deep, stretched over a frame in the shape of an open umbrella. The low profile relative to the width is what makes it work in a normal room: it covers a large area of table without hanging down into anyone's sightline across it.

Fabric is the reason to choose this over a metal or glass shade of the same size. It diffuses the light softly and lets a little through the material itself, so the room gets a gentle wash and the shade glows faintly at the edges rather than presenting a hard dark rim. Two colours are offered: beige, which is warm and quiet and disappears into a neutral scheme, and black, which is graphic and defines the space below it much more strongly. Both suit a dining table, a kitchen island or a large bedroom, and both are available hardwired for a permanent installation or as a plug-in with a cable and in-line switch.

Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Keep fabric shades clear of heat and use a bulb that runs cool. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight and diameter of the fitting.
