The bird is the shade, and it rotates. There is no stop and no limit on the angle, so you can turn it to throw light onto a wall, down onto a desk, or up at the ceiling, and the lamp changes character entirely depending on where you point it. Most decorative lamps are fixed; this one is a light you aim.
Electroplated gold is a finish rather than a plating in the jewellery sense, and it does what it needs to here: it reflects warmly, catches highlights along the curves of the bird form, and reads as an object worth looking at when the lamp is switched off. That is half of what a decorative table lamp has to do.
Two versions are offered, one light and two, and the two-light is a genuinely different piece rather than the same lamp with an extra bulb: two birds, two angles, twice the reach.
