Hemp rope coiled into overlapping petals across two tiers, so the shade steps outward as it descends and the silhouette reads as a flower opening rather than as a bowl. The rope is thick enough to hold its own shape, which is what allows the petals to sit proud of each other instead of collapsing flat. Up close you can see the twist of the fibre; from across a room it is the outline that registers.
The two tiers do the lighting work. The upper ring diffuses light against the ceiling and the lower one drops it downward, so you get ambient and directional light from a single fixture rather than having to choose between them. Between the petals, narrow gaps throw radiating lines of shadow that fan outward across the ceiling. Under a warm bulb the hemp goes a soft sand colour; under a cool one it looks grey.
Three sizes are offered, 40 x 18 cm, 50 x 22 cm and 60 x 26 cm, in hardwired or plug-in versions, and the cable is adjustable up to 2 m, which covers most standard and high ceilings. Bulb not included. Indoor use only: hemp rope absorbs moisture and will slacken in damp air. Dust it with a dry soft brush and never with a wet cloth.
