Large Nordic Fabric Drum Pendant

A large fabric drum, offered at 60 cm and 80 cm wide, which is bigger than most domestic pendants and is the whole reason to choose it. At this scale the shade stops being a detail and becomes part of the architecture of the room, defining the space below it the way a rug defines a floor.

Fabric is what makes a shade this large workable. It diffuses light softly through the sides as well as down through the mouth, so instead of a hard-edged pool on the table you get a broad, gentle wash that fills the room and lifts the walls. Two colours are offered: white, which stays quiet and reflects the most light, and brown, which is warmer and reads more strongly against a pale ceiling. The 60 cm size suits a standard dining table or a living room; the 80 cm version needs a large table, a wide seating group or an open-plan space, and a reasonable ceiling height to sit properly. Both are available hardwired or as a plug-in with a cable and in-line switch.

Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Keep fabric shades clear of heat and use a bulb that runs cool. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight and diameter of the fitting.
