Small Colour Wall Sconce

A small, softly rounded wall light, 16 cm high and 15 cm wide, in four clean colours. At this size it is not trying to light a room; it is there to put a pool of warm light exactly where it is needed and to add one note of colour to a wall that would otherwise be bare.

Green, yellow and pink are all soft, confident tones rather than primaries, so they work against white plaster and pale timber without shouting, and white is there when the shape should carry the piece on its own. Mounted in a pair either side of a bed it does the job of two table lamps and gives back the whole surface of a nightstand. It also works along a hallway in a run of three, above a reading chair, beside a mirror, or in a child's room, where the size and the colour suit the scale of the furniture. Two versions are available: hardwired for a permanent installation, or plug-in with a cable and switch, which is the easier option in a rented flat or where there is no wall wiring.

Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended, and a bulb that runs cool should be used. Mount securely into a suitable wall fixing. Keep the cable of the plug-in version out of a cot or bed, and out of reach of small children. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
