Crystal Bedside Table Lamp

11 cm wide and 30 cm tall, which is unusually slim for a crystal lamp. Most crystal table lamps are wide and heavy because the material invites it; this one is narrow enough to sit on a nightstand that also has to hold a book, a glass of water and a phone, which is the actual constraint in most bedrooms rather than the styling.

Crystal earns its place when it is lit from within, and a small lamp does that better than a large one: with a single source close to the facets, every one of them picks up light, where a big fixture leaves the outer crystals dull. The result is a lamp that sparkles at its own scale rather than one that tries to be a chandelier.

Two finishes are offered at the same price: silver, which is the cooler and more traditional, and white, which softens the whole thing and suits a pale bedroom. Bulbs are not included, since crystal travels badly with one fitted; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Indoor use. Dust the crystal regularly with a soft dry cloth, since dust dulls it faster than anything.
