Cross Woven Bamboo Pendant Light

Bamboo fibres woven by hand in a crossing pattern, so the strands run over and under each other at an angle rather than in simple rings. The result is a shade with a much stronger graphic structure than a plain weave, and when it is lit the crossing lines throw a diamond lattice of shadow across the ceiling that genuinely stops people in a room.

The light it gives is warm and natural, filtered through the fibre rather than bounced off a hard surface, which is why bamboo suits rooms meant for the evening. Two sizes are offered. At 30 by 25 cm it is a compact fitting for a bedside, a hallway or a breakfast bar, and a group of three at staggered heights makes more of it than one alone. At 50 by 35 cm it has the presence to be the focal point of a living or dining room. Every shade is woven by hand, so colour, grain and weave vary and no two are identical. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool, keep it clear of the weave, and do not fit a high-wattage bulb. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight of the fitting.
