Pastoral Woven Bamboo Pendant Lamp

Woven bamboo in a simple rounded form, with the weave left open enough that the shade reads as light rather than solid. Pastoral is the right word for it: there is nothing urban or engineered about the piece, and its appeal is the same as a well-made basket, which is the material, the hand-work and the honesty of the construction.

Two sizes are offered. At 45 by 30 cm it suits a breakfast bar, a bedroom, a hallway or a smaller dining table, and works well in a pair at different drops. At 60 by 45 cm it has the scale to be the single fitting over a full dining table or a kitchen island, and it is large enough to change the feel of a whole room. Hung over a table it throws a wide, soft pattern of woven shadow across the ceiling and the upper walls, which is what a plain shade can never do. The natural tone sits with white plaster, linen, terracotta and pale timber and softens a modern room without turning it rustic.

Suitable for indoor use in living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens. Bamboo is a natural material, so colour, grain and weave vary between pieces. Bulb is not included; use a bulb that runs cool and keep it clear of the weave. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
