UFO Pendant Light in Black or White with Brass

A wide, low disc with a domed centre, this pendant borrows the flying saucer profile and executes it in metal with a brass interior. The trick is in the two-tone finish: the outside is matte black or white and reads as a clean silhouette against the ceiling, while the inside is brass, so the light picks up a warm gold tone on its way down and the fitting glows from underneath rather than glaring.

Two sizes are offered. At 40 by 24 cm it works over a breakfast bar, a hallway table or a bedside, and looks good in a pair or a row over a smaller island. At 60 by 40 cm it has the spread and the presence to be the single fitting over a dining table or a full kitchen island. The wide low form is one of the most practical shapes there is for a room with a standard ceiling, because it puts light across a broad surface without hanging into anybody's line of sight across the table.

Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended, and a frosted bulb sits more comfortably in an open-bottomed shade. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the ceiling fixing must be rated for the weight of the fitting.
