The shape is drawn from a conch shell: a spiralling, tapering form that narrows towards the top and widens as it comes down, with the weave following the curve rather than running straight. That is considerably harder to make than a cylinder or a dome, and it is what separates this from the plainer basket shades around it. It reads as sculpture before it reads as lighting.
Three sizes are offered, 25 x 35 cm, 30 x 40 cm and 35 x 50 cm, all taller than they are wide, so the light falls in a contained column rather than spreading. Two finishes: natural wood, which keeps the bamboo pale and coastal, and coffee, which deepens it towards brown and suits a room with darker furniture.
The vertical proportion and the modest diameters make it a good candidate for grouping, hung at staggered heights over a table or down a stairwell. Bulbs are not included, for safety in shipping; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs with a maximum of 60 W are recommended. Indoor use only, since bamboo and rattan absorb moisture. Dust with a dry soft brush along the spiral.
