The two fibres behave differently under light: rattan is smooth and reflective enough to glow, jute is coarser and absorbs more, so the shade carries a subtle variation in brightness across its surface that a single-material weave never produces. It is the sort of detail you notice slowly.
The proportion suits a bedroom or a living room better than a dining table. Tall and narrow means the light falls in a contained column rather than spreading, which is right beside a bed, next to a reading chair, or in a corner you want defined rather than flooded. Two of them either side of a bed replace table lamps without taking up the surface.
