Gold Metal Bird Desk Lamp

79 cm tall against 35 cm wide, which is unusually tall for something described as a desk lamp and closer to a small floor lamp in practice. That height puts the shade above eye level when you are seated, so the light comes down onto the surface from above rather than across it, which is how a lamp should work at a desk, and it is the mistake most short desk lamps make.

The bird form is the structure rather than a decoration attached to it: the body and the stance carry the shade, so there is no separate stem or arm anywhere on the lamp. That is harder to engineer than a conventional design and it is why the object holds together visually. Gold metal reads warm and catches highlights along the moulded surfaces.

It suits a bedroom, a living room or a home office, and at this height it works standing on a low console as well as on a desk. Bulbs are not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended, and a warm white suits the gold. Indoor use. Wipe with a soft dry cloth, avoiding anything abrasive on the finish.
