Beach Rattan Herringbone Island Pendant
The herringbone weave is what separates this from the plain rattan shades around it. Instead of strands running in parallel, they cross in alternating diagonals, so the surface has a directional pattern that catches light along one axis and holds shadow along the other. From directly below, that reads as a fine chevron radiating out from the centre, which is a more considered effect than a basket weave gives.
It is proportioned for a kitchen island: at every size the shade is a little deeper than it is wide, so the light is delivered downward onto the worktop rather than scattered around the room. Hung in a pair or a row of three at a matched height, the repeated chevron reads as a deliberate pattern along the ceiling rather than as three separate fixtures.
Three sizes are offered, 40 x 35 cm, 50 x 45 cm and 60 x 55 cm. The 60 cm is large enough to work alone over a wide island or a long table. It is handcrafted throughout, so the weave varies slightly from piece to piece. Bulb not included; a warm white LED brings out the rustic tone. Indoor use only. Dust with a dry soft brush and keep clear of steam.
