Each of these shades is worked string by string by an artisan, and the time that takes is what you are paying for. A rattan basket woven at this density cannot be produced quickly, and the evidence is on the surface: the strands are consistent but not identical, and the rim holds its circle without a heavy internal frame propping it up. The black finish is applied to the finished weave.
The versatility is the practical argument. The same shade works as a bedside lampshade hung low, in a row over a kitchen island, or as a single pendant above a dining table, and it does so across coastal, boho and rustic rooms without adjustment. Black makes it easier to place in a room with dark joinery or a strong wall colour, where a natural shade can look washed out.
Three sizes are offered, 35, 40 and 50 cm, all square in proportion. Use the smallest in pairs, the largest alone. Bulb not included; a warm white LED keeps the black from reading cold. Indoor use only. Dust with a dry soft brush and expect to do it more often than with a natural finish, since dust is visible on a dark weave.
