Bamboo Lotus Leaf Pendant Light

The shade is woven into the curved, slightly irregular form of a lotus leaf, with the edges lifting rather than falling in a neat circle. That asymmetry is what makes it: unlike a symmetrical dome it changes shape as you walk around it, and the raised rim lets light spill sideways as well as down, lifting the walls around the fitting instead of leaving them dark.

Four diameters are available, from 35 cm to 60 cm. The 35 and 40 cm sizes suit a bedside, a hallway or a breakfast bar and work well in a group at staggered heights, where several leaves at different levels read as a cluster of foliage. The 50 and 60 cm versions are large enough for a dining table, an island or a living room. Each is offered hardwired for a permanent installation or as a plug-in with a cable and switch. In an oriental, coastal or rustic room it looks entirely at home; in a plain modern one it works as the single natural element that stops the room feeling clinical.

Bamboo is natural, so colour, grain and weave vary between pieces and the leaf shape is never quite identical twice. Bulb is not included; energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less are recommended. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
