Bamboo Cloak Wicker Pendant Light

The shade falls in soft folds like a cloak thrown over the fitting, which is unusual in woven bamboo and is what gives this pendant its character. Rather than a rigid geometric dome, the wicker follows a loose draped line, so the silhouette is irregular and changes depending on where you stand. At 65 cm wide it is a substantial piece and it is meant to be seen.

Hung over a dining table it does the job a big shade should: it marks the table, brings the ceiling down to a human height and gives the room a focal point. It also works well in a wide hallway, in a living room corner above a seating group, or in a bedroom where a soft natural texture suits the room better than glass or metal. The open weave lets light through the gaps as well as down through the mouth, so the pattern it casts is broad and irregular rather than tidy, which is exactly what a draped shade should do.

Bamboo and wicker are natural materials, so colour, grain and weave differ from piece to piece. Bulb is not included; use energy-saving LED or incandescent bulbs of 60 W or less, and choose one that runs cool. Hardwired installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
